Introduced in 2017 for the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, the L5P is the most advanced, powerful Duramax diesel engine to date. The L5P’s specs are impressive too, packing a whopping 445hp and 910ft-lb of torque.
It’s not hard to see why the L5P was a welcome replacement for the outgoing LML in GM’s heavy duty truck line. Not that the LML isn’t great, but the diesel market is hungry for more power and the newest technology!
With that said, the L5P isn’t completely perfect.
Like all diesel trucks, the OEM fuel system on L5P-equipped Silverados and Sierras leaves plenty of room for improvement. Even with GM’s factory filtration, air, water, and debris can still reach the engine, causing premature component failure and reducing performance.
