Growing up in Missouri, Jake Hopkins, who works on our marketing team, was surrounded by diesel trucks. From the mighty 12-Valve Cummins to the legendary 7.3 Powerstroke, every stoplight in his hometown roared with the sound of diesel power.
A gearhead since birth, Jake quickly grew to love the diesel platform. After all, what’s not to love about a truck that can tow, race, sled pull, and melt tires—all while being a comfortable, efficient daily driver?
After joining the FASS team, Jake FINALLY realized his diesel dreams by purchasing his 2006 Ram 2500. It was the perfect rig to modify—powered by the mighty 5.9 liter Cummins and backed by a G56 manual transmission.
After a couple of years, he was ready for a slightly more comfortable cruiser—something he could comfortably fit dogs and kids in. The truck of choice was the 2017 Ram 2500 Mega Cab you see here.
Gone is the G56 manual and 5.9 Cummins—replaced by a 68RFE automatic and a 2nd-Gen swapped 6.7 liter Cummins.
While the 68RFE doesn’t offer the same legendary reliability as the G56, Jake wanted a truck that anyone could hop in and drive.
But don’t worry, he’s got an 800hp-rated built 68 ready to go when the stock unit inevitably melts.
In just a few short months, Jake (with the help of some FASS teammates) has turned “Dori” into a potent street machine—modifications include:
- FASS 165GPH Titanium Signature Series Fuel System
- FASS Fuel Systems Fuel Sump Kit
- Revmax Thermal Bypass
- Smeding Diesel Performance Billet S464 Turbocharger
- ARP 625 Head Studs
- Axe Forged 24×12 AF8 Wheels
- 35″ Nitto Recon Grapplers (not pictured)
- ICON Vehicle Dynamics Stage 2 2.5″ Lift Kit
- Alpharex LED Headlights & Taillights
- Diode Dynamics RGBW Rock Lights
And chances are, he’s far from done. There’s almost certainly some 100% over injectors and a bigger CP3 in this truck’s future.
Jake says his long-term goal is to reliably make 700whp, while keeping the truck a street-friendly daily driver. If that’s not enough, Jake has a 2,500+ watt subwoofer setup going in soon as well.
Overkill is underrated, right?
As a part of our marketing team, Jake gets to travel the country to various diesel events, so don’t be surprised if you see this truck in your hometown. If you do, be sure to ask him when he’s finally going to put it on a dyno!
